I opted for the ‘Quiche of the Day – homemade with free range eggs, cheese and cream, served with a garden salad ($13.50)’. There were a couple of flavours to choose from and I decided to have the spinach and feta. Not often do I find a flavoursome quiche when eating out but this was fabulous! The tomato relish that came with the quiche was also delicious and had a sweet tang.
My dining
companion went for the ‘Sassy Burger – Angus beef burger with tomato, cheese,
lettuce, caramelised onion and tomato relish, served on a toasted focaccia roll
($15.50)’. This is one of the best burgers he has tried. The ratio of
ingredients was spot on and the patty had a nice flavour. The tomato relish
again enhanced the dish.
WHAT WE DRANK...
We both
ordered Hot Chocolates ($4.50). These arrived in a big mug with a marshmallow and a
chocolate freckle! The hot chocolates were luscious…
OVERALL…
For some
reason I have always overlooked Sassafras Café when visiting Sassafras. We
visited the Dandenongs one day when it was very busy and struggled to find
somewhere to eat so we thought we would give Sassafras Café a try. We were so
glad that we did! The staff are very friendly and it is a relaxing and peaceful
place to have lunch or a hot chocolate and cake.
