Tonto, Canterbury

WHAT’S ON THE MENU?
·         Zucchini and halloumi fritters with poached egg, prosciutto, avocado and tomato salsa ($17.00)
·         Egg and bacon panini with smoked cheese ($10.00)
·         Smoked salmon, avocado and quinoa with poached eggs and basil and spinach puree ($18.00)
·         Pulled beef and halloumi burger with bacon, slaw and herb mayo in a brioche bun with a side of chips ($21.00)

WHAT WE ATE...
The menu at Tonto was quite limited but I decided to have the ‘Mini brioche sliders with pulled beef and slaw x 3 ($18.00)’. The sliders were very yummy but a little on the small side for $18. The beef was nice and tender and the slaw had a good crunch.

My dining companion chose the ‘Potato rosti with scrambled eggs and feta on tomato relish ($16.00)’. Most elements of the dish were lovely but the scrambled egg let it down because it was a bit leathery and bland.

WHAT WE DRANK…
My latte ($4.00) made with Axil Coffee was delightful.

OVERALL…
I was driving to work and was excited to see that a new cafĂ© in Canterbury had appeared. The striking mural on the exterior wall draws your eye… The staff were very friendly and the interior was bright and welcoming. Hopefully they expand their menu once they have been in operation for a while.
