Middle Park Hotel
A night of Duck and Shiraz... what else could you want? Maybe
a handsome barman... well, they even had that too. I was fortunate to win two tickets
to the Middle Park Hotel’s Duck and Shiraz dinner. It was a magical night and I
enjoyed every minute of it. Built in 1889, the magnificent, refurbished pub has
a welcoming, community atmosphere. Wish it was my local...

Here is a summary of the dinner:
Aperitif and Entree:
Crab Scotch egg with apples, celeriac and sauce gribiche.
2010 Mount Langi Ghiran Blanc de Blancs (A great way to start the night. The Blanc
de Blancs was my favourite wine of the night. I absolutely need to buy some
bottles of this...)
Duck crepes parmentier with foie gras de canard and sauce
Perigourdine. Mount Langi Ghiran Sparkling Shiraz.
Second Course:
Spit roast Muscovy duck lacquered with honey and spices,
chestnut faro and root vegetable puree. 2010 Mount Langi Ghiran Shiraz and the
1999 Mount Langi Ghiran Shiraz (This was probably my favourite dish of the
night. The flavours in the duck were amazing and that chestnut faro was so
luscious!).
Dessert:
Passion fruit pavlova with citrus fruits and sorbet. 2010
Mount Langi Ghiran Cliff Edge Cane Cut Riesling.
It was a shame the night eventually had to end. The food
was delicious, the wines matched perfectly, and the staff were lovely. I will
definitely be going to the next special dinner at the Middle Park Hotel...
