Vanilla Pod Cafe
The Vanilla Pod Cafe clearly specialise in cakes. Check out their website for some of the beautiful creations http://www.vanillapodcafe.com.au/. It can be hard to get a table at this Heathmont cafe due to its popularity but if you are lucky enough then it is well worth the effort. There are a couple of tables in the window and then a long row of tables stretching down the length of the cafe. After admiring the sample celebration cakes at the front of the cafe, we grabbed a table down the back. Nice comfortable seats with throw pillows for extra comfort. Breakfast is available until noon on weekdays but on weekends it is available until 2pm. Today, I chose my favourite dish, the Open Grill with chopped bacon, avocado, tomato, and cheese ($9.90). This comes with a lovely salad of lettuce, carrot, beetroot, and cucumber. My friend decided to have a pizza ($10.50). He went with the Hawaiian option which arrived on a wooden chopping board. A pita base with shaved ham and crushed pineapple which my friend enjoyed enormously. Maybe I will try this next time... My friend’s cappuccino ($3.40) was not too bad, perhaps a little bitter. This came with a cute mini meringue which was a sweet welcome addition. They have T2 tea here so I chose an English breakfast tea ($3.40) which also came with a mini meringue. Cakes here are very good value. Small cakes and slices are $3.00 which would be perfect for a sweet treat after your lunch with a coffee. Muffins are $3.30 with today’s choices being Mixed Berry or Apple and Cinnamon. No table service here but the staff are very friendly. Overall, a great value cafe with some delicious, quality food.
