WHAT WE ATE...
The menu is
a bit limited at lunchtime to sandwiches and some main meals as the breakfast
menu stops at noon. Perhaps having the breakfast menu run all day would give
some more variety. I chose an item from the sandwich menu. The ‘Reuben on Rye,
pastrami, sauerkraut, swiss cheese, pickle ($16.50)’. Unfortunately, the
sandwich contained two, very thin layers of deli pastrami. In Melbourne, you usually
expect thick layers of house-made pastrami when you order a Reuben. A perfect
example is the one at Now and Then CafĂ©… The sandwich tasted alright but the
bread was very hard so I had to leave the crusts. Also, my dining companion ordered a sandwich for the same price and he received chips... Where were my chips?
My dining
companion also picked a sandwich. The ‘Chicken Schnitz, smoked bacon, slaw, Bulls
Eye cheddar, toasted brioche ($16.50)’. The sandwich was more like a burger
with a brioche bun. For some reason, he received hand cut chips…
WHAT WE DRANK…
Our lattes
($4.00) made with Dukes Coffee were fantastic!
OVERALL…
Finally, in
my old hometown of Chirnside Park, they have launched an eating precinct next
to Platinum. Three venues have opened up as part of the new look at East Ridge
including The Precinct Bar, Carne Grill, and The Bosses Boots Café. On this occasion
I checked out the café, which has great potential with such a fabulous space
and outlook over the lake. I am sure that they will tweak the menu as they become a more established café. The service and coffee were wonderful so I will definitely
be catching up with family for a coffee soon…
