Hello Sailor
Ahoy there matey’s! Last weekend we decided to try Auburn
Road’s newest café, Hello Sailor. With The Counter over the road, Hello Sailor provides
another place to get your caffeine hit in the area. The interior is light and
inviting, with bread in the window enticing you in. The café has a maritime
feel which is probably due to the fact that the owner, Wade Nicholson-Doyle, was
in the navy. You do feel as though you are in a boat with the wooden planks adorning
the left wall (or perhaps even walking the plank...). We were greeted at the
door without delay and the very friendly staff were attentive throughout our time
there.
Although the Gingerbread milkshake ($7.00) did sound intriguing,
I decided to have my usual latte. The coffee at Hello Sailor is from Seven Seeds
whilst the tea is provided by Storm in a Teacup ($4.50) which has some interesting
flavours such as Liquorice and Lavender. My latte ($3.80) was a milder blend
but very delicious and smooth.

Hello Sailor has a breakfast heavy menu and a couple of
lunch options. Items on the menu include ‘Brioche French Toast with Rhubarb and
Mascarpone ($16.00)’ and ‘Vanilla porridge with Apple, Cinnamon and Hazelnuts
($10.00)’.
I picked the ‘Roasted Vegetable and Ricotta Crepe ($17.00) with
truss tomato and caper sauce’ from the lunch choices. The crepe was constructed
into four pillars and was filled with roasted eggplant and capsicum. The rich
tomato and caper sauce had bite and the rocket and freshly shaved parmesan
rounded off the dish. A very enjoyable meal.

My dining companion went with the ‘Breakfast Bun: ($11.50)
Beef and herb sausage, fried egg, cheese, rocket, relish or harissa on brioche’
and settled on the harissa over the relish. A mouth-watering delight with just
the right amount of heat to compliment the fillings. A salad of shaved radish,
carrot, and greens with a honey dressing accompanied the meal.

Hello Sailor is a marvellous place to catch up with
friends for a gossip as it has great acoustics. I really wish this was my
local...
