WHAT WE ATE...
It was
difficult to decide which doughnut to pick as there were so many tantalising
flavour combinations. In the end I opted for the ‘Maple, Walnut and Brown
Butter Donut ($5.00)’. This was incredibly scrummy with a soft, fresh centre
and a moreish outer coating that flaked when you took a bite. The earthiness
from the walnuts and the sweetness from the maple created a wonderful doughnut
flavour.
My dining companion chose the ‘Rhubarb and Ginger Donut ($4.50)’. This was also yummy but
our favourite was the maple and walnut doughnut.
OVERALL…
With many
doughnut shops opening up around Melbourne, we are quite spoilt for choice! One
of the leaders in Melbourne doughnuts is Shortstop Coffee & Donuts which is
tucked away in the CBD and specialises in cake rather than yeast doughnuts. This
place is very popular so to skip the queues, jump onto their website and
pre-order your doughnuts. After a couple of rounds of ten pin bowling, we bought
some doughnuts at Shortstop for afternoon tea. The service was great and we
even received complimentary glasses of sparkling water with our doughnuts! I
can’t wait to try some more of their doughnuts. Perhaps, the Earl Grey and Rose
Donut…
