The Old Butcher Shop Café

I must take my grandfather to this café as he is an ex-butcher and this is an ex-butcher shop... Three generations of the Stewart Family have occupied this store which has now been converted to a café, The Old Butcher Shop Café. The Seville Butchers relocated to the Seville Shopping Centre last year. All their produce is sourced from the Yarra Valley and the meat is provided from Seville Butchers. The Old Butcher Shop Café also provides catering and take-home meals. The cafe is a great place to take the whole family with an extensive kid’s menu available.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU?
·        Organic spelt pancakes with candied bacon and maple syrup ($16.00)
·        The Butcher’s Breakfast – eggs, bacon, relish, spinach, slow roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, baked beans, chipolata and toast ($19.80)
·        Pulled Roast of the Day with Asian slaw, chilli mayo on Turkish bread ($15.00)
·        Sweet Corn and Leek Fritters with avocado and feta mash, roast cherry tomatoes with coriander salad ($14.50)

WHAT WE ATE...
I chose the ‘Pasta with macadamia nut pesto, grilled zucchini, roasted pumpkin, rocket salad ($16.00)’. I rarely order pasta at cafés as I find it can be a bit bland compared to what can be made at home, but this pasta was fantastic! The pumpkin was sweet and luscious and the pesto was amazing. It was a massive amount but I ate the lot as it was so scrummy.

My dining companion opted for the ‘Breaky Burger with fried eggs, bacon, avocado, rocket, tomato relish, mayo on a Turkish roll ($14.50)’. This was another gorgeous meal using quality ingredients. The two fried egg yolks were just waiting to burst and expose themselves.

WHAT WE DRANK...
There are Mini Spiders ($4.50) for the kids and alcoholic beverages for the adults. A Dominique Portet Sav Blanc ($8.00 per glass) from the Yarra Valley perhaps... My Latte ($3.70) was very nice indeed.

SERVICE...
Friendly table service is provided and they actually spray and wipe their tables after each customer which is something that all cafés should take note of!
