Le Café Village, Canterbury

When I found out that there was a new café in Maling Road... I zoomed down to check it out. Le Café Village is located in what was once the gift shop down the end of the road, next to Bohemia Cakes. The café was quiet but probably people are unaware that it exists yet... It has a wood panelled interior and some cosy chairs in the front window where you can read the paper. The menu is extremely good value for money. All day breakfasts, crepes, sandwiches and pastries make up the menu and it is great to find a place that offers light lunches. Time will tell if Le Café Village can compete with the many eateries along Maling Road, but they are off to a good start.

  

WHAT’S ON THE MENU?

·        Banana crepe with fresh sliced banana and ice-cream ($8.00)

·        Veggie crepe with cheese, spinach, mushrooms, capsicum and egg ($11.50)

·        Club Sandwich – ham, cheese, tuna and chicken ($5.00)

·        Le Café Village Special – eggs, bacon, cheese, hash brown, cherry tomato and toast ($10.95)

WHAT WE ATE...

I picked the ‘Homemade Mushroom Pie with side salad ($5.50)’. The pie was lovely and golden and inside contained a very delicious mushroom filling. You could taste the essence of wine and the love put into it. The side salad of lettuce, tomato, olive, cucumber and feta was also delightful. All this for $5.50? I’m sold.

My dining companion decided to go with a carnivorous option. The ‘Roasted Beef Open Sandwich ($8.50)’ also came with the same side salad as my dish. There was a plentiful amount of pulled beef but the open sandwich could be perhaps elevated with some additional toppings.

WHAT WE DRANK...

My latte ($3.80) made with Vittoria Coffee was robust but not bitter.
