Picnic at Fordham Gardens

With the weather finally starting to warm up, yesterday I thought a picnic of fish and chips would be a fun way to celebrate. I’ve heard good things about the Middle Camberwell Fish and Chip shop. Big portions and old school prices. It is situated opposite Woolworths in the Middle Camberwell shops. We placed our order and in less than ten minutes it was ready. We then jumped in the car with our hot parcel of sinfully delicious goods and headed over to Fordham Gardens. A couple of picnic tables were on offer with one in the shade which I swiftly nabbed. There is also a playground and a BBQ, plus a nearby bin which is very handy. Loved up couples were enjoying the shade from the trees as the trams passed by. Fordham Gardens was not overly busy and was the perfect setting for our picnic.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU?

·        Hamburger with the lot ($6.50)

·        Blue Grenadier ($4.90)

·        Steak sandwich with the lot ($7.50)

·        Pumpkin Fritter ($1.50)

WHAT WE ATE...

Between the four of us, we ordered two flakes ($4.90 each), four potato cakes ($0.90 each) and a minimum of chips ($3.00). Is this one of the cheapest fish and chip shop’s in Melbourne? I’ve found that flake is often upwards of $6.00 nowadays. However, there is no point it being cheap if the quality is lacking... Thankfully, the quality was brilliant too! 

We halved the generous portions of succulent flake. The batter on the flake was light and crispy. The potato cakes were crunchy and not too thick with batter. The chips were great too.
