Weekend Away - Bendigo Part 2
In the morning, we went to the Bendigo Art Gallery to see
the ‘Genius and Ambition’ exhibition. Close
to 100 works from the Royal Academy of Arts, London were exclusively shown at
the gallery and featured some of the world’s best artists such as Constable,
Gainsborough, and Turner.
Lunch: Day 2
After perusing the shops at Daylesford, we had a late
lunch in Trentham. The Colliban Foodstore is a café, wine bar, fine wine merchant, and food store located just off the
main street.
The menu had some tantalising dishes that were very
reasonably priced. Items on the menu include ‘Fresh black lip mussels with
chilli, coriander, garlic and white wine broth ($16.00)’ and ‘Crispy fried
quail with lime, sweet potato and chilli jam ($12.00)’.
I was going to order the ‘Vegetarian lasagne ($17.00)’but they had run out. Instead, I chose the ‘Roast Veggie Frittata ($17.00) with smoked salmon and rocket’. A tremendous slice of frittata that was jam-packed full of vegetables arrived with plenty of smoked salmon. I find that fritattas can be a little bland at cafés but this one was delectable with bags of flavour. However, a relish or condiment of some kind would have been a nice addition.

My dining companion went with the ‘Rueben Sandwich ($15.00) with Swiss cheese, corned beef, sauerkraut, and 1000 island dressing’.The sandwich was very scrummy and the corned beef was tender. My dining companion did not need the 1000 island dressing that came with the Reuben Sandwich so I swiped it for my frittata.

After lunch, we browsed the lovely gourmet food and wine that adorned every nook and cranny.
