Innocent Bystander

It was a warm and sunny day so we decided to take a leisurely drive to the Yarra Valley. We ended up in Healesville and thought we would have lunch at the Innocent Bystander. We didn’t make a booking but you probably should if you want to sit out on the balcony. Booking can easily be made online via their website. Although the place was bustling, we had no problems getting a table inside without a booking. Of course I had to order my favourite tipple, a glass of the famous Innocent Bystander Moscato ($7.00).

The lovely pink blush of the moscato comes from the skins of black muscat grapes. My friend also chose the moscato whilst the guys sampled a selection of beers including some White Rabbit ale as their brewery is located next door. We decided to share two pizzas between the four of us. We went with the ‘Roast mushroom, provolone, black truffle oil, garlic, and parsley ($25.00)’ pizza and the ‘Australian prawn cutlet, san marzano tomato, lemon, chilli garlic, barrel aged feta & sorrel ($25.00)’ pizza.

Both of the wood-fired pizzas had a slightly charred, thin base and were utterly delicious! My favourite out of the two would have to be the mushroom pizza but it packs a serious punch of garlic so perhaps no kissing in the near future... The prawn pizza was also great with the lovely addition of sorrel. The food took quite awhile to arrive but the service was friendly and efficient. We didn’t have any coffees today but a latte at the Innocent Bystander is $4.00. I absolutely loved our time at the Innocent Bystander and it is a fantastic way to spend your weekend.
