Hargreaves Hill Brewing Company
When visiting the Yarra Valley, wineries may be the first
thing that comes to mind. However, there are also some fabulous microbreweries
to try as well. Lately, I have experienced much joy sampling the many craft
beers Australia has to offer. Since reading about a Chestnut Ale in an English
magazine, I’ve been dying to try it but have been unable to source it in
Australia. If you know of any Chestnut beer available in Australia, please let
me know!
The menu was quite small and consisted of seven main dishes as well as some nibbles and starters such as Cumin Squid with lemon aioli ($16.00). Mains include ‘Housemade Potato & Parmesan Gnocchi with locally grown mushrooms, goat’s cheese & walnuts’ ($28.00) and ‘Roasted Pork Belly & Fresh Apple Slaw’ ($25.00). I chose the ‘Trevally fillets in Pale Ale Batter, with chips’ ($25.00). The beautifully flaking fish was surrounded in a divine batter. The chips were amazing! Crunchy and tasty, they were the perfect accompaniment to my Pale Ale. The parsley salad refreshed the palate and the cherry tomatoes were really sweet.
My dining companion picked the ‘Black Angus Steak Sandwich with lettuce, tomato, caramelized onion & housemade mustard aioli on toasted sourdough’ ($25.00). This was another delightful meal and the steak was nice and tender.
Hargreaves Hill Brewing Company is located in Yarra Glen,
just along the street from the Yarra Glen Hotel. We were seated in the back
room by our lovely waitress and thought we would start with some beer of
course! If you can’t decide what beer to choose or you just want to sample a
range of beers, Hargreaves Hill offers a Tasting Paddle for $8.00. Today, we
ordered a Pilsner ($5.50), Pale Ale ($5.00), and a Stout ($6.50). My favourite out
of the three was the Pilsner. The water was served in a dimpled beer mug which
I thought was very cute.
